First Recollection

Michael Timmins

[C] [E] [C] [E]

[C] My first recollection is a day in De- [E] cember, [C] black iron steam engine
covered in [E] ice [C] like some Precambrian monster, moaning and [E] snorting.
[C] Nothing was ever going to beat that beast in a [E] fair fight.

[C] I've sat and watched the woodpiles grow through the [E] summer
now I'm [C] sitting, smelling summer burn through the [E] fall.
[C] Winter's coming on, days getting [E] dreary
and I'm [C] thinking this is the season that I leave you [E] all.

I've heard a [F] man in a crisis falls back on what he knows [E] best,
a [F] murderer to murder and a thief to [E] theft.
And I [F] don't want you to think that this is some kind of deathbed con- [E] fession,
[F] but run is what I did when put to the [E] test. [C] [E] [C] [E]

[C] My first recollection is a day in No- [E] vember, [C] 747 tracing lines
[E] through the sky [C] like some old gypsy curse silently [E] preying
upon the [C] dreams of those who jealously watch life passing [E] by.

[C] I've sat and watched my troubles pile through the [E] summer
now I'm [C] sitting, hearing my youngest cry [E] down the hall.
[C] Winter's coming on, days getting [E] dreary
and I'm [C] thinking this is the season that I leave you [E] all.

I've [F] heard that the son must bear the burdens of the [E] father
but it's the [F] daughter that's left to clean up the [E] mess.
And I [F] don't want you to think that I'm asking for abso- [E] lution,
[F] but run is what I did when put to the [E] test. [C] [E] [C] [E]

{The picking pattern varies a little each time through; what's written below is how Mike plays it the first time through. The introduction actually starts on beat three of the last measure of the pattern.}
